UFC 67 Match Ups

ufc 67It looks like this card is set for sure....Baring any more unexpected injuries. Many are disapointed not to see St. Pierres first title defense, but that will come soon enough. The loss of that fight gives the Silva / Lutter fight top billing.....or does it??? Now with the addition of Quinton Jackson and Mirko Cro Cop stepping into UFC fights, the spot light just got a lot wider.

First, the Anderson Silva vs Travis Lutter fight. I have heard several reports which say that this is a tough match up for Anderson, that Travis will be able to take this to the ground easily and dominate. I don't buy it, Silva is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and too fast and powerful for Lutter. I think that there is a chance here for Lutter to pull out a win on the ground, but it would take a significant mistake by Silva. Silva is currently rated as the #2 middleweight in the world, Lutter is not considered to be in the top ten. The odds will come out likly around +350 for Lutter and that wouldn't even be close to tempting me into putting a bet on him.

Next, Mirko Cro Cop (considered to be #2 heavy weight in the world) steps in the ring against, well who cares he's just going to get kicked up side the head and fall down. Right? Eddie Sanchez is 1-0, I saw him fight at UFC 63 where he KO'd his opponent and then said that any heavyweight who steps in front of him will get knocked out....He was looking at Silvia, he might have something different to say for Mirko. The odds on this fight should be +500 for Sanchez, I might put 10 pts down if it hits +1000...barring that it will be great to see Cro Cop fight here but not much in the way of a contest.

Finally for the big names, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will be fighting Marvin "the Beastman" Eastman. This should actually be an exciting fight. Eastman's first win ever was in 2000 over Rampage. Jackson contends that he was inexperienced at the time and short on prep time. Jackson has proven over the years to be a powerful, skilled fighter who is never lacking in something to say. His record speaks for itself with a KO of Chuck Lidell and most resently a decision over Matt Lindland. Eastman is no joke, but he must win this fight to move forward in his career which seems to be waning currently. The odds will likely come out +200 for Eastman, but I don't think I'll be betting on this dog either.

The rest of the card does have to many exciting match ups except maybe the Patrick Cote vs Scott Smith fight. There is some potential for some fireworks there and the odds makers may have a hard time with that one, we will see in a few weeks.
