UFC 78 Bisping vs Evans: Early Betting Odds

By Paul Thursday, October 25, 2007
Rashad Evans: Best Odds -275 at Bookmaker
Micheal Bisping: Best Odds +250 at BetUS

Well right off the bat I've noticed many comments on forums etc (myself included) that this card is lacking in "star power". But, don't mistake that comment for meaning that I think the card is weak. The headline fight between Micheal Bisping and Rashad Evans is a more exciting match up that the original Evans - Ortiz. The styles of these two fighters should provide for a very active fight. Honestly anything would be better than what we saw from these two in their last bouts.

In betting terms the bookmakers seem to be putting much more weight on Bisping's last showing than Rashad's. Both were tentative and slow to initiate their game plans and not up to their expectations. Unfortunately for Bisping his win was probably due to poor judging and left a bad taste in many mouths.

My initial take on this fight has been that Rashad has the advantage in size, wrestling, and it seems close in the standup. On the ground Bisping will have a slight advantage. Rashad has the overall advantage and should win this fight, but the odds are not worth it. I would say that the probability for each should be about 60/40 to 65/45. In other words Evans isn't a good buy unless he's around -150 to -190.

Early call is a decision for Evans but Bisping's value is very hard to pass if you can get odds better than +275.
