UFC 67 Fight Picks

Here are my picks for UFC 67 fights. I am not betting on all of the fights, the fights I am betting on are listed with my picks. With a card like this, where most bouts have heavy favorites I place enough bets to offset my one underdog pick, in this case Scott Smith over Patrick Cote. If Smith Loses I probably break even on the night. I Placed all of my bets with BetCris because they offered the best odds at the time and I prefer their deposit / withdrawl options.

Anderson Silva vs Travis Lutter ............ Silva by (T)KO 100pts @ -420
Mirko Cro Cop vs Eddie Sanchez ............ Mirko by (T)KO
Quinton Jackson vs Marvin Eastman ..... Jackson by (T)KO 100pts @ -700
Patrick Cote vs. Scott Smith ..................... Smith by (T)KO 100pts @ +160
Ryoto Machida vs. Sam Hoger ................. Machida by Submission
Tyson Griffin vs. Frank Edgar ................. Griffin by decision
Terry Martin vs. Jorge Rivera ................. Rivera (T)KO 100pts @ -215
Roger Huerta vs. John Halverson ........... Roger Huerta by submission
Dustin Hazelett vs. Diego Saraiva ........... Hazelett by Submission 100pts @ -220

How odds work for MMA matchups

I've heard this question several times, so I thought a quick post might help.

MMA odds are laid out differently than most bets. They are usually shown in the US style which looks like -250 / +310. This layout looks at your bet in two possible ways. One if you bet on the favorite (-250) the negative amount represents how much you would have to bet to win $100; and second, if you bet on the underdog (+310) the amount represents how much you would win if you bet $100. This system emphasizes the value of betting on the dog and makes betting on the favorite seem much less profitable. The other sytems used for showing MMA odd are the traditional straight ratios (8/1), and the decimal system (1.26) which basicly says if you bet on the favorite you will get back 1.26 times your bet, which includes your original bet. Here's an example from a ufc 67 matchup. These odds show Silva is the favorite... note under all systems you would have the same winnings.

Silva vs Lutter

-500 / +300......US odds
1/5 & 3/1 ...........Traditional
1.2 & 4.0 ............Decimal

For a $100 bet the total back to your account is $120 (favorite) or $400 (underdog). As you can see the the US odds style is the hardest to relate directly to winnings if you are betting the favorite. Most just look at the US odds as a $500 bet to win $100. However, to calculate winnings for any bet size on the favorite it works out to (100/the odds) X your bet= your profit. Hope this long winded babble helps.

UFC 67 Udates on Match Ups

Anderson Silva vs Travis Lutter has recieved alot of attention on all the MMA boards and some people are doing their best to imagine how Lutter can win most doubt it can happen. My Pick is Silva by KO 2nd round.

Next, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filopovic (21-4) vs Eddie Sanchez (1-0) The odds on this fight should be +500000 for Sanchez, I might put 10 pts down if it hits +1000...barring that it will be great to see Cro Cop fight here but not much in the way of a contest. In case you were thinking of betting against Mirko just for fun take a look at this Cro Cop Highlight Video.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will be fighting Marvin "the Beastman" Eastman. This should actually be an exciting fight. Eastman's chin and takedown defense are his main weak points with some worries about conditioning, but I was really suprised how much of a dog he is on the betting lines.

The rest of the card doesn't have to many exciting match ups except maybe the Patrick Cote vs Scott Smith fight. There is some potential for some fireworks there and the odds makers may have a hard time with that one, we will see in a few days. I wanted to see Melvin Guilard fight but that is off due to injury. So, my only pick for the undercard right now is Scott Smith by KO 1st round. You gotta love his momentum

New Updated UFC Odds Section

I've added a new section on the top of the blog providing betting lines from the top odds makers. I will update the post as odds become available. Typically headline fights will have lines available 20-15 days before the fight, while most other odds do not go live until 2-3 days before a fight. The layout of this will be a work progress.
