Ultimate Fight Night 18 Betting Odds - Kampmann vs Condit

By Paul Saturday, March 21, 2009
Martin Kampmann (-105 Sportsbook) vs Carlos Condit (-115 BetUS)

This UFN 18 main event is one of the few fights drawing much betting interest, it's also likely to be one of the most action packed fights of the night. Two well rounded technicians who finish fights will put on a solid show in all aspects of the game.

Kampmann was on a stellar win streak at 185 lbs, taking out Crafton Wallace, Thales Leites, and Drew McFedries; showing both his striking and ground prowess. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury which kept him out for a year, and cost him his shot at Rich Franklin. He made a successful return in mid 2008, choking out Jorge Rivera at UFC 85. Next he ran into the power and skills of Nate Marquart and suffered his first loss since 2004. In his last UFC bout in January he dropped down to the 170 lb class and picked apart a fresh UFC rookie scoring an easy TKO victory. Now it's back to tuff competition against Condit.

Carlos Condit has been a fixture of the WEC 170lb class and the reining champion since 2007. His last fight was his most hard fought defense which finally ended with a 4th round TKO of Hiromitsu Miura. Sitting on an 8 fight win streak and 3 title defenses, Condit will enter this fight with a great deal of confidence. Condit's strengths are centered around his speed and technical attacks both on the ground and standing and at 6'2" he will bring a potentially significant reach advantage to this fight.

As the odds suggest this fight relatively even. Both fighters are relentless, have solid ground and stand up games and have shown the ability to take punishment and change their game plans mid fight. Condit will hold a slight advantage on the ground however it's unlikely Kampmann will be subbed unless he's been seriously softened up. On the flipside, Martin will hold a slight advantage on the feet. Kampmann will likely struggle in the first round finding his range, but as he finds it he should be able to keep the fight on the feet and eventually pick Condit apart. If Condit gets off strong early in the fight and then smothers Kampmann in the latter rounds it could be enough to pull out the victory. Oddly in a match up with two guys that finish fights there's a pretty good chance of seeing a decision. Both are very skilled and dificult to submit and have shown solid chins. This will just come down to two guys fighting their asses off for three rounds. Either guy can take this, but I'm leaning toward Kampmann, mostly because I like his attitude and he's a UFC vetran. Outside of that it's up to you with good odds in either direction.
